Tiny Flakes, Big Love – Why You Shouldn’t Wait for Newborn Photos

May 26, 2025

Oh mama, if I had a penny for every time a parent whispered, “Their skin’s a bit flaky at the moment…” – I’d have enough for another studio snack stash. 😄

Let’s get one thing straight: your baby is perfect. That beautiful skin – whether it’s peeling, spotty, or a little red in places – is completely normal and so common in those early newborn days. And yes, they are absolutely photoshoot-ready, just as they are.

But let’s dive into the details, shall we?

“What if their skin is red, flaky, or they’ve got baby acne?”

Totally normal. Newborn skin goes through a huge adjustment in those first weeks – from womb to world – and that often looks like dry patches, flakes, redness, or little hormonal spots. It’s all part of the journey.

“Do you edit out flaky skin or baby acne?”

Here’s my golden rule: If it won’t be there in two weeks, I’ll ask if you’d like it removed.
That means things like baby acne, red marks, or flaky skin can absolutely be softened or edited out if you’d prefer. But permanent features like birthmarks or little skin tags? They stay – because they’re part of your baby’s story.

“We’re worried their skin might ruin the photos…”

Oh, lovely – please don’t worry. I’ve had lots of parents say the same, especially about flakiness. But I promise you, it’s so common. I use a mix of flattering lighting, soft wraps, gentle editing, and expert posing to bring out the very best in your little one. If there’s a healing cord stump or patchy skin, we can work around it – while still keeping the session natural and baby-led.

“Should we wait until their skin clears up before booking?”

Nope. Please don’t. These sleepy, snuggly, curled-up days are fleeting – and I promise, the skin stage is never the thing you’ll notice in the finished gallery.
You’ll see their eyelashes. Their pouty lips. The way they curled into you just like they did in the womb.
You’ll want to bottle this stage – and that’s exactly what I’m here to do.

So, if you’re staring at a tiny flake on their nose or a few spots on their cheeks and wondering if it’s worth postponing… this is your gentle nudge to book the session anyway.
They’re already perfect. And in years to come, you’ll be so glad you captured them just as they were – baby acne and all.

Ready to bottle up those newborn snuggles?

Don’t wait for perfect skin – let’s capture the perfectly real moments.
Flakes, spots, squish and all – this season is fleeting, and so very worth remembering.
